“My name is Garba Aisha, and I live in Aburi, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. I was born into a family where the primary roles of women were seen as being a wife and a mother. Because of this background, I couldn’t continue my education beyond Junior High School. However, I learned typing and graphic design from a neighbor who owned a printing press. I also crochet, sew, and work as a Graphic Designer, taking on various jobs to support my family. I am married with two children, and my husband is a Pastor in a small village called Abonse, also in the Eastern Region.
One morning, I was having a conversation with my friend Asantewaa at the Aburi Craft Village, where I sell my crochet items. We were discussing how tough things had become and how slow the market was, and she introduced me to Kofaya. She encouraged me to visit the office on Saturday for more information. When I went that Saturday, I was impressed by everything about the organization, especially because it is a Women Empowerment Programme. I’ve always wanted to help girls and women who come from backgrounds similar to mine, so joining Kofaya felt like a dream come true.
Now, I earn some money through Kofaya, which has made life a bit easier for my family and me. I’m also learning more about E-commerce. I am a happy and proud member of the Kofaya Family.”
